One month ago today, our fur friends united to support the Atlanta Humane Society (AHS) for its third annual Walk for the Animals fundraiser. Adorned in regal attire, Sir Basile along with his buddy, Bruno, met new friends and foes before embarking on the 5K event. The ShahSquared team, appropriately named the “Yappy Hour Crew”, was comprised of an intimate group of the company’s friends and staff.
In 2015, AHS created its annual 5K, held at Atlanta Station, after many successful years of the “Pet Parade” fundraiser. This year, the event was the largest to date with around 3,000 participants. It’s exciting that “the program continues to grow each year,” explained Development Manager, Christine O’Shields. “We added around 400 to 500 people from last year.” In addition to participant numbers, the event also featured a costume contest, trick contest and freebies from its sponsors.
Fundraisers like these help AHS not only support animals in the Atlanta metro area, but also in the Southeast. With the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the rescue group opened its doors to the innocent fur victims from Florida and Texas. These animals were transported from their states, provided treatment, and returned to their homes or adopted into new ones. For Christine, its activities like these that amplify her passion for the organization.
“It’s easy to stay connected [to your job] when you can see who you’re helping first-hand.”
– Christine O’Shields, Atlanta Humane Society
This year, Walk for the Animals raised $250,000; these funds serve 30,000 animals each year and help place 10,000 dogs and cats in forever homes. As a no-kill shelter, AHS allows any animal residing in its facilities unlimited time to be adopted.
For ShahSquared Consulting, animals hold a special place in the team’s hearts. From dogs, cats and everything in between, our love is endless for fur creatures. In addition to the Atlanta Humane Society, ShahSquared Consulting is proud to support FurKids, Mutt-Maddness, and Angels Among Us Pet Rescue that rescue animals from high-kill shelters and give them a second chance at love.
